Around the world in Fragrance...As one would expect of an Empressa, she travels in style: all abundant pearls, mirrors and fine silks. Like her scent, she leaves a seductive and lasting impression but her noble airs are clothed elegantly in grace. Florals and fruits are exquisitely combined, tamed, because whilst she is sweet she is anything but clingy.

A Middle Eastern Rose, from Damascus, makes the fragrance tender; geranium and pepper bring verve. The opening trilogy of blood orange, bergamot and mandarin serve as an inviting, radiant smile. But what lingers of the Empressa, are the sensual depths of amber, patchouli and precious woods. She may always wear immaculate pearls, but the Empressa has a secret fondness for silks and spice. Bright, soft and deeply sensual are the textures of this luxurious, luminous cloak. #penhaligonstraderoutes #penhaligons

Agarbathi and Paithani, two new additions to the Trade Routes Collection. Around the world in Fragrance...

"India is like nowhere else in the world, so much so, that travelling there can often feel like a dream." @freyadowson

Agarbathi. Light filters into the temple in luminous shafts. The sound of running water connects this moment to the outside.
A plume of incense smoke signals a timeless, wordless peace. But whilst tranquility reigns, the rush of bergamot and pink berries reminds us of all of Life and its pulsing beat. The sacred resin Oliban blends into one with the omnipresent incense and a milky-skin deep accord. Garlands of Himalayan Jasmine, God’s own flower, hang ready outside, for the wedding festival to adorn the heads of guests. The jasmine, blends with the incense and lifts with light the sombre vetiver and the fragrant Indian sandalwood. Another sign of the sacred, and of Life.

"India engulfs every part of you from the moment you arrive - each one of your senses working to process and take in everything around you." @freyadowson

Introducing Paithani. When travelling through India one is confronted with the jewels of Nature and recurring moments of beauty that touch the Divine. (Our recent London experiences of smog are long forgotten as we barter for silks.)
Our mountain train’s arrival into Bombay was greeted by an explosion of sound that dazzled our reverie and shook us awake. Vivid colourful saris, Paithani, swirl all around, and to complete the sensory overload, before long there is the welcoming smell of spicy hot tea! Added to it, as tradition dictates, an agreeable explosion of spice (cardamom, nutmeg and pepper - the fragrant holy trinity). The soothing aspect of a silky, milky rose, serves as a rousing caress. Soon there is the famed cedar from Himachal Pradesh that blends with the smell of leather trunks. Because travel has always been the greatest feat of independence. And to best capture the feeling of our faithful companion, the sun - bountiful, low and full - rich amber infuses and illuminates the end of the day. Shop link in bio. #penhaligonstraderoutes
