Today was a special day because not only did I host the first Poetry Film Festival at Beyond Baroque, but also because we premiered The Hidden there.
Based on Leland Hickman's poem The Hidden, this animated short film is a visual interpretation of the energetic, sprawling and engaging poem that moved and excited post-beat poets across America. Originally published in 1980, The Hidden is an erotic, haunting, and sincere autobiographical avant-garde poem that deals with life, death, and the transformation of our deepest losses into an affirmative equilibrium of the benign gifts of conscious enlightenment.
The short film uses a restored recording of the first time Leland Hickman read the poem for a crowd at the famous literary center Beyond Baroque, In Venice California in 1981.
Thanks to all who came out and supported the festival! Much love.
