Steak & Kidney Pie: Cold winter nights calls for something that is comforting and satisfying. Served on a bed of silky Mashed Potatoes with chives, Roasted Red Carrots done with butter and maple syrup with a hint of ginger and cinnamon, and, accompanied by a stout ale. Asian Fusion: A little experimentation, served on a bed of rice are lightly steamed ribbons of cabbage, slices of Orange & Ginger Beef, thin raw carrot slices dressed with Sherry & honey vinaigrette, Tamagoyaki and topped with fried sweet peppers and onions. My concept was to have dish that combined elements that were warm and cold, sweet and sour. I am happy to say that I succeeded! Next time out with a little tweaking it should be near perfect.

Sourdough Bread: The first time I tasted it was in San Francisco, in 1979. It was one the things that I missed the most when I got back to Montreal. Over the years sourdough breads, thanks to artisanal bakeries began to become readily available in #Montreal . Today, I closed a circle by baking my first sourdough bread. It was surprisingly easy to do. I baked it from scratch, beginning with making my starter. I am happy to say that it came it out near perfect, as you can see. Good crust, alveoli structure and it has a mild tangy flavor. I expect the flavor to improve with future loaves, when my starter reaches full maturity. #homecooking #baking #bread #sourdough #travelmemories

For some reason, my Father was the one in our family that took up pickling. One of his favourites was pickling green peppers. Today, as I attempted my hand at making them, I thought about him ... .
