I took a pretty incredible class this past weekend. I truly gained new insight, knowledge, and inspiration from another amazing stylist.
One of the most mind blowing tid bits of information was on why we should prep our clients prior to lightening services.
What I learned: ➡️ All water contains substances that can build up and deposit on the hair.
What does this mean? ➡️ If you wash your hair, metals and other garbage have absorbed into your hair leaving a build up. This build up (especially metals) can interfere with the lightening process, Prohibiting you from getting the best possible result you can get.
You see lightener has to get through all those layers of build up before actually getting to the the color molecules in you hair. Using all of its prime potency to get through that part first, gives you less lift and lightness for your service. Not to mention lightener can have a chemical reaction with the metals on your hair leaving some not so good damage. ➡️ I also learned this build up leaves hair looking darker and dull. And, you can actually get blondes looking brighter without reapplying lightener to those already lightened fragile ends. Just like in this video! The transformation is incredible. ➡️ Brunettes have build up too! Build up can leave your hair looking dull and lifeless.
If you plan on receiving a lightening service or any color service, ask your stylist for a Malibu Gel Crystal treatment prior to your service. (Please keep in mind that this treatment takes extra time, so plan ahead!) You'll get the most bang from your buck from your color service. This service is a $20-$30 add on, but is worth every penny! That's a little extra cash to get the results and healthy hair you want!
