{one more installment of remembering gregg~ post 3 of 3}

three years after gregg’s diagnosis ( almost to the date) god scripted the most beautiful story, beyond anything i could have ever imaged. he does that. the immeasurably more i prayed for my girls but had no idea what that could possibly look like.

he takes our broken and holds it in his hands & creates something brand new. he’s a master story teller & brilliant artist. who else can take our ashes & create something brilliantly full of life again?

three years later the girls & i walked down the aisle & married dan. he took a knee & vowed to cherish and raise them as his own…and love me with a radical, tender, ridiculously loyal love. good gracious!

on the back of our wedding program i shared that the same faithful heavenly father that was with me as a bride that beautiful spring day, was the same faithful heavenly father that was with me as a widow on that chilly fall day. we were never alone. never forgotten.
so y’all, this first image…it’s dan & gregg …the day i married gregg. dan was a groomsmen in our wedding and one of gregg’s very best friends!

not a day has gone by where i’ve forgotten to be blown-away thankful for this man that i love with everything!

I’m pretty sure it was late on a Monday evening and we were watching ER. Back when we watched tv in real time. Gregg was about to head out on a guys ski trip, so being quite the (competitive) jock he was getting some stretches in ahead of time. I’ll never forget him reaching up under his arm and finding a super tender area.

I had just found out I was pregnant a few days prior. Savannah was about to turn 3 & Madi was 10 months old.
That ski trip came & went as did multiple doctor visits before we heard the diagnoses- metastatic melanoma. That tender spot under his arm was actually several lymph nodes eaten up with cancer.
I was an oncology nurse and had taken care of adults and children with cancer for years. Now it was time to take care of my husband.
As emily grew in my belly, Gregg’s cancer relentlessly grew & spread to his liver. We induced labor on one of Gregg’s weeks off of chemo- 2 on. 1 off. He got sick that day- while I was in labor and delivery with a pitocin drip, he was on the oncology floor getting iv fluids.
Emily was born and completed our family of 5 looking just like him!

A few weeks later he had a grandmal seizure. I called 911 and even as an RN could barely remember the safety precautions taken for someone seizing. I honestly thought he was dying right there. The ambulance rushed him to the closest ER and tests were run. I’ll never forget walking into the room as he looked at me & pointed up to his forehead. As he nodded his head he told me the cancer had spread.
He lived only a few weeks more.
My friends and family helped me plan a funeral while I breastfed Em. No one could believe at 35 he was gone. Daddy. Husband. Friend. Coach. Son. Teacher. Youth pastor and perpetually happy handsome, otherwise super healthy guy.
I’m no hero or super strong person. I was just a regular mama of three baby girls 100% seen, carried, loved and cherished by my Father in heaven.
He told me, not like outloud weirdo style but just in my heart,that he heard every prayer those 9 months. That he saw every tear. That he chose me to be the mama to three little girls who’s lose their dad and that we were in the palm of his hand...(cont’d in comments)

{ remembering & honoring Gregg this week}. 22 years ago on November 6 we said goodbye to our Gregg after his 9 month battle with cancer. He was a good man who loved Jesus and loved all four of his girls. the girls were all just babies November 6, 1996. Savannah was 3, madison 19 months and Emily was 10 weeks old.

we’ve seen God’s faithfulness & kindness to us in the most beautiful ways both during those days of feeling so lost & vulnerable to today. He’s been so good. I prayed these words over my sweet girls & i have seen him do immeasurably more
...there is always more.

Yesterday’s haul from the @countrylivingmag fair - my mantra was clearly “less but large”.
& my apparent luck for raindays colliding with fall festival days is 2 for 2 😜 ( buying a giant papier-mâché bowl in the rain & carrying a massive longhorn skull thingie through crowds was extra exciting 🤠)
