Happy Friday everyone! πŸ™ŒπŸΌ No usual workout video this week since I am taking it easy for the tournament this weekend (still did a much lighter full body lifting sesh) but I did want to show a little bit of my stretching routine after every training or lifting session πŸ§˜πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
.
Over the years, I’ve had a few lower body injuries from karate, such as a broken ankle, multiple sprained ankles, knee tendinitis, and a pulled IT band. Some of these were because I was not educated thoroughly of the importance of stretching, especially when I did two-a-days when I was younger. With a culmination of these injuries, I’ve definitely lost some flexibility (I’ll also blame my age 😜).
.
Static stretching and foam rolling are so important after a workout because it reduces soreness, decreases the risk of injury, and improves performance by breaking up the lactic acid build-up in the working muscle. Although I have lost flexibility, especially in my hamstrings, i still do my best to stretch and foam roll everyday after every workout. One day though, I will do yoga in attempt to regain my flexibility back πŸ˜…
.
Don’t forget! Doing some dynamic stretching and activation exercises before every training session is essential as well to get the body warmed up and increase blood flow to the working muscles. Doing some type of stretching pre and post training is essential for your body to perform optimally πŸ’ͺ🏼✨
