#BennettCollege, the renowned private four-year #HBCU for #women, could lose its accreditation, and brothers Jussie and Jake Smollett are fighting to make sure that doesn't happen. Earlier this month, we reported the #Greensboro, North Carolina, institution was placed on probation in 2016 due to budgetary issues and low enrollment. Both Jussie and Jake Smollett took to Instagram to share historical facts about the college and lend their support to fundraising efforts. "At our peak in the 1930s we had 121 HBCUs, now we’re down to 101.  Don’t let us be down to 100 if Bennett College, an institution who has made the education of #blackwomen a priority since 1926, closes its doors," the Empire star wrote in his post. "We must continue the legacy of Bennett College Please Click or share @bennett_college and Donate today using the link in their bio and share using #standwithbennett love and respect HBCU," he continued. Jussie's brother, culinary entertainer #JakeSmollett, shared a similar post on his Instagram page about the college that was founded in 1873. According to WSOC TV, Bennett has until February 1 to raise around $5 million dollars to appeal the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on College's decision threatening the 145-year-old school's survival. If you want to help keep Bennett's doors open, you can donate at #N4TC #News4TheCulture #Urban #ForTheCulture #ForThePeople #Diaspora #Black #African #AfricanAmerican #Melanin #BlackNews #BlackEducation #NC #School #College #JussieSmollett
