Tonight’s gathering @kat_francois ‘s word4word in London took me back to Montreal poetry jams with vets like Naila Keleta Mae, Jason Blackbird Selman, Kaie Kellough and the Neudorpher Twins (Joseph and bro David). It was clear to all of us barely 20something that we were poets 1st. Lovers 2nd and Revolutionaries somewhere in between those 2 places.
Poetry somehow makes our messy lives imperfectly beautiful. Poetry makes our messy lives beautiful. But in that, I can’t forget that the poem is simply a distillation of the experience lived. Life is the original poem. The orature, the performance of the orature, comes after. Watching poets as beautiful as the ones who performed tonite, makes me fall in love with poetry and performance all over again. Sometimes (like some of us do) I fall in love with poets. Their poetry, so seductive that its magick extends far into my desire...you gotta be careful of poets (and poems) like that 😉
