Already headed down the safety rabbit hole... 🕳 Work is sending me to a day long class at the end of the month. There’s a lot of gear to inspect. Started looking into how to decided if a sling needs to be taken out of commission. Kinda feel bad throwing them away but I’m not the bad guy here. Using a damaged sling could result in serious injury or death. So think about that when you are picking up a load. I’m gonna have to talk to everyone again about protecting slings from the rough, sharp edges of castings. If you are wondering - a huge part of these inspections is visual. #safety #inspection #cranes #chains #hoists #safetyinspector #rigging #slings #manufacturing #industry #equipment #preventativemaintenance #instamachinist #instaartist

You are supposed to cut the old slings up and use them as protectors for new slings.

It's good to remember that new safety gear is always cheaper than the consequences of it failing

Are you guys required to get osha 10/30?

  • 17w ago lathe_rollins lathe_rollins

@emeraldmachinist good call. I think you can get them repaired / reconditioned too. If it costs more than 50 percent of the sling its not worth it tho and slings aren’t that expensive.

@fattmable not sure it’s a requirement but I’m gonna do it anyways.

@lathe_rollins it's really redundantly redundant, but if you can get someone to come teach a class you can get a lot out of it with out wanting to blow you brains out in front of a screen. Especially for the tomato cans of the shop to open there minds too things they've been doing unsafely forever

Hey dave, our old welder saved the jacket off of a decommissioned sling as a new TIG-lead cover. 😄 Thought you might appreciate the only way you can get yourself a purple one.

Go ahead and send em my way, I'll use them in a shop where I'm the only one who might die and that's ok 😂

You're not lying. I'm constantly catching dumb stuff when it comes to lifting. And in my business EVERYBODY'S watching.
