By popular demand we highlight here the blades of the two exceptional kindjals from the collection of the U.S. National Museum of Natural History Department of Anthropology archive collection (Cat. Nrs. E276706 and E422864). Both kindjals photographed by us and cataloged for the Smithsonian during a long term research process. The kindjal at the top with a blade of fine pattered watered steel or wootz and likely of Persian or Turkish origin, most likely of Dagestani workmanship. The lower example a classic a marine ivory mounted type made in Kubachi, Dagestan and the blade of classic North Caucasian form and etched with pious scripture from the Quran. Rarely found in such quality.
