When being pregnant, it is important that your boss and co-workers are aware of it, due to several reasons. One of them is that sometimes you won’t feel well. Carrying a baby demands a lot from your body, and fatigue and morning sickness come together. Some days you will feel very well and productive, and will get a lot done. In other days, your performance might be different because that is the natural thing to happen, after all, you’re pregnant. Sounds an obvious thing to say, but many women feel they have to keep doing the work exactly as before. And some co-workers/bosses also do not want to understand the change on performance as a normal thing, and will push for results. So being vocal about how you feel and what you need is important also to create boundaries.
.
From the beginning, think about a post-pregnancy plan: would you rather return to work full time or use the company policies like flextime and home office? Create your plan and discuss it with your boss. Do not feel bad if some days you cannot deliver the work with the same speed. Do the best you can, be proud of the work done and enjoy the pregnancy!
