Detox diets are widely promoted as a healthy way to lose weight and cleanse your body. The truth, however, is that there is no quick fix. If you’ve spent past five years eating junk food, you can’t expect to be cleansed in few days or weeks. 🍏

What exactly is a detox diet? Even though there are many different detox diets, their ultimate goal is to cleanse the body from harmful substances, often called toxins, through a diet consisting of certain food. Detox diets are usually very restrictive and limited to only juices, teas, or other drinks. Therefore, if you are on detox diet, you are probably eating far less calories than your body needs to function properly. Yes, you will lose weight if you are not eating enough calories, but not in a healthy way. 🍵

There was investigation in 2009 (Voice of young science). They asked ten companies if they could prove their product’s efficiency. Not only that they couldn’t do so, but they couldn’t even name the “toxins” targeted in their products. - 🤔 Does the body even need detox? The short answer is no. Your organs are already doing a great job in removing harmful substances, and they don’t need help from detox diets. Moreover, toxicity is best addressed by a well-fed body, and not the one that is weakened by a diet. That said, detox diets are going to do more harm than good. 📈

To conclude, if you are having a healthy, balanced diet consisted of whole foods, you don’t need “detox” to begin with, nor you should feel bad for yourself if you eat processed food from time to time. Focus on eating nutritious food on a daily basis, because they are way tastier and way better for you, and you are not going to have to starve yourself. 🍕
