Part 1 of 2
So recently there was a tragic crash of a Cubana de Avación (the airline) Boeing 737-200, original series. Here’s a quick summary. There were 113 people an board. 4 people, three women and 1 man, initially survived the crash but two died of their injuries as of this point. Upon takeoff, the aircraft was in a tight bank, and it was reported to have struck a power line and hit the ground close to the airport. ————————————————————
From what I’ve read, I don’t think this crash was caused by improper maintenance. From my knowledge, accidents similar to this were caused by the mistake of forgetting to extend the flaps. A plane cannot takeoff and climb with retracted flaps. ——————————————
All else aside, they haven’t figured out the cause of this crash yet. Both black boxes have been retrieved and are being analyzed. Mixed reports from witnesses add to the confusion. But why did this 737 crash?

So, this begs the question, “Are older planes more dangerous than new ones?” And I have an answer to that. Generally, no.
In a second part of this post I’ll talk about the safety of new planes verses old ones.
