Iโ€™m 1862, the American civil war was ablaze and the north was halting the south from selling cotton to other countries. In turn, the French economy suffered so emperor Napoleon the III sent troops to collect debt from the Mexican government with plans of setting up a base there to support the south to get the cotton flowing again. While occupying the small town of #Puebla, the French troops were outnumbered and defeated. #CincoDeMayo commemorates that day in 1862 when Mexico defeated the French at the Battle of Puebla, but they also prevented the American Confederacy from receiving needed support and ultimately helped the Union Army win the Civil War. It is hugely celebrated in the USA, but itโ€™s generally a normal day in Mexico, except maybe in Puebla where the Battle was won. Enjoy the many ways Mexico has contributed to the fabric of our American lifestyle over your tequila and maybe donโ€™t wear a sombrero if thatโ€™s not part of your heritage or normal steelo. Thanks Mexico! ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฝ
