Last year I read an article by Forbes magazine saying that by 2020 the men’s grooming industry will make 20 billion dollars a year. We’re seeing barbershops and men’s grooming salon popping up everywhere. There’s an international shortage of people to actually do these hair cuts. We’re also seeing major chains like Floyd’s, bishops, Rudy’s and even celebrities like David Beckham throw his hat in the ring with a hair product line. Where do you see this industry headed? Are we peaking or are we just getting started? #anthonythebarber916 .

It all depends on the responsibility barbers and stylists do collectively for the market

  • 11w ago anthonythebarber916 anthonythebarber916

@jeremywexlerhair we hold some of the responsibility

@anthonythebarber916 I just opened up a shop 2 months ago. In the area I live in we are 1 of 2 new age barbershops in area. We’re promoting short haircuts, it doesn’t matter on age or gender, just quality cuts. I’m always down for competition so no peaking here @herringbonekc

I think there's room for growth. Look at women's beauty products. Though men's will never fully compare, the days where only gay men or straight "meteosexuals" can care about how they look is a thing of the past. I think it's acceptable for all men to invest in their outward appearance now and I see it getting more and more mainstream.

Wouldn’t say peaking but people see it as an easy way to make quick money! They open these chop shops with no experience and ruin it for people who have worked hard. The industry as a whole has so much further to go it’s just going to take a little bit longer to get there!

  • 11w ago corey_bradburn corey_bradburn

There needs to be some sort of way to get rid of these shops with no licences, barbering has been voted one of the most trusted professions and yet anyone can start their shop up with no experience! You wouldn’t go to a Dr/dentist who doesn’t have a qualification so why should you even have the option of going to a barbers who doesn’t have 1!

What I dont like is all these shops opening and nobody has a licence to cut hair ! I know 10 guys in Toronto raking in the cash. Opening shops left right and center. The College of Trades needs to stop it. Nobody seems to enforce anything . Its wrong and unfair to everyone else that went to school .@collegeoftrades

@corey_bradburn we’ve been dealing with chop shops long before the boom. But I agree

  • 11w ago anthonythebarber916 anthonythebarber916

@originalcanadianbarbers most of the world doesn’t have licenses for haircutting so how do we deal with that

  • 11w ago anthonythebarber916 anthonythebarber916

@corey_bradburn we just have to educate consumers. Sub-par product will always be available, capitalism, man. Also, I didn't know this until a few years ago, but even tattoo artists don't have a license for that (correct me if I'm wrong, a friend who is doing permanent makeup told me that.) I guess not all long-standing trusted professions have licensing? Crazy to me

I don't know, I hope it keeps growing. I'm moving back East, because there are no barber shops where I'm from.

@anthonythebarber916 I think the peak will hit within 3-5 years. I’d say the start of the barber boom was 6-7 years ago. Think about it🤔! In just about every field has some sort of boom. Then at about the ten year mark it dies out. look at the mortgage business!! 10/15 years ago everyone wanted to be or was a loan officer and killed it. Look what happen, it fell super hard. Not that I’m saying that’s going to happen but I’d say here in the states it will definitely be over saturated which will lead to a collapse. But then again who Knows. I’ll definitely say its now the cool thing to do like being a blogger or wanting to be insta famous. That’s my 2 cents

The best barbershops will stand the test of time. Those who are in it for the right reasons not just a quick buck. It's all about client care, relationships and retention. Turning out quality cuts to suit the needs of the client not just an Instagram shot. People are getting it all wrong twisting people's heads around for the best lighting, photo and video and not even having a conversation with the man in the chair. I would rather have a shop that has a regular solid clientele who I know and respect 👍🏼💈❤️
