πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¬πŸ‡²πŸ‡ΎπŸ•·πŸ•Έ Singapore Blue Tarantula (Lampropelma violaceopes). This large arboreal species is native to the tropical jungles of Malaysia and Singapore and are known to exceed leg spans of over 10" as adult females. This young juvenile female is approximately 6". L. violaceopes are sexually dimorphic, with males looking drastically different from females upon maturity. While females will sport a brilliant metallic blue-violet coloration, mature males will feature a dull olive-green coloration. In 2015, a proposition was made to reclassify this species into the Omothymus genus, but as of today, this species is still listed as Lampropelma violaceopes on the World Spider Catalog due to the lack of evidence to sufficiently justify the reclassification. This species is notoriously fast moving and prone to sudden bursts of extreme speed. L. violaceopes can also display a fair amount of defensiveness when threatened, and will not hesitate to bite. Being an old world species, it goes without saying that venom potency is quite high and a bite from L. violaceopes will likely be extremely painful. Handling is not recommended. Coming from a tropical region, this species seems to prefer a moderate amount of humidity when kept in captivity. Slings of this species display burrowing tendencies up to juvenile stage, where they will then begin to take on arboreal behavior.
