My father was the Deputy Base Commander of Homestead AFB when Hurricane Andrew hit Florida in 1992. The base was destroyed and I rode out the storm with strangers (friends of friends of my parents) in one of the hardest hit areas, just outside the evacuation zone. Large parts of most of the houses (later deemed to be of substandard construction) and all of the trees were falling down around us. It was so bad where I was that, after the storm, the national news was broadcasting from our location. It was one of the most terrifying and traumatizing experiences of my life. My heart goes out in the biggest of ways to everyone effected by the recent storms. The photos are of my parents' house on Homestead AFB, which was inside the evacuation zone and took a direct hit from the storm. #hurricaneandrew #hurricaneharvey #hurricaneirma #homesteadfl #florida
