Sorry to disagreed with all of this. I came from Argentina, where i lived 23 years of my life and there's no such a discrimination referred to 'skin color' as here in the USA with the 'white supremacist'. I use to call my best friends 'negro' (nigga) in a very friendly and lovely way. Here in the USA I can't even think to say that word only because, since I'm a 'white latin', some people could get really offended and even call me 'racist'. I think it's time to finish with the victim role and stigmatized

  • 40w ago justxone justxone

@nicontino just because for 23 years of your life YOU did not experience discrimination based on color, does NOT mean it DOESN'T exist. From what I read, you're on the light/white side no? So you would benefit from colorist, hence why you don't know it exists (i.e. White privilege in America and many white ppl not knowing it's a "thing"). It exists everywhere. Every country, every culture (that I've heard of). And you're right, you should NEVER use that word, because it is not yours to say. You using that word is pure insensitivity, ignorance and you just "trying to be cool." Your whole comment doesn't thread together properly so I'm unsure of the point you're actually trying to make, but no one is playing victim. Educate yourself so you don't continue to sound so ignorant. Google is a good tool.

No honey, @justxone don't take it personal, I'm not trying to disrespect you or any other. I'm expressing my point regarding to this video and a situation that is exclusively from the USA and other countries with this problems, but not in latinoamerica. Did you ever lived in a latinoamerican Country? I see so much victimization here with a word like 'Negro' friends called me like that and I had never felt myself offended, and you know why? Because I don't consider it a bad word, black is a color as pink and blue, and green. So why would i take it personal? The owner of this account is from Cuba, i bet he knows that in Cuba, dark skin people and lighter skin people share way much more union than here. And why is not my right to use the word "negro" or 'nigga' there's a law that says that? Im a human being as same as you and we share the same rights correct? If some day you call me white or black that will not define me in any sense i assure you

@nicontino ok, first of all, this video was made BY latinx people to educate latinx people. As @justxone said, you clearly come from privilege, regardless of what part of the world you live in. Racism isn't exclusive to the United States, it's worldwide. In fact, in the Hispanic and Latin community, there's a saying about dating a person of darker skin tone which is "atrasando la raza", which literally means "regressing the race". That in itself is blatant racism. It's true that in some areas of our countries, racism doesn't play a big role within society, but it certainly does play a big role in other areas. As in, people of lighter/whiter skin tend to have more opportunities, just as they do throughout the world. As the video said, "acknowledging this DOESN'T divide us. It helps us to take action and correct this." Calling someone "negro" out of affection is NOT THE SAME as using the N-word which was created and used to minimize, oppress, and even dehumanize black people. The reason black people started using the N-word was to try and diffuse its power. Regardless, IT IS NOT OUR WORD TO USE.

Ok @danelljleyva entiendo tu punto, pero no lo comparto, I still think there's a stigma regarding this topic. And that's stigma only feed racism. I still do not think there are no people who can OWN the right of saying a word. I honestly hope with all my heart racism stop here and the whole world. Education is not bad bit again this amount of problem regarding to skin colours (violence and repression) are not in all countries.

White privilege? Always blaming white people. Safe spaces unless you're skin is lighter. Gotta love that when there is nothing else to blame, we start blaming each other.

  • 40w ago kmishellsolis kmishellsolis

Blame is thrown around but as @danelljleyva points out the video is meant as a reminder that blame shouldn't be given out, we should acknowledge the racism that exist in Latino and Hispanic communities and by that sheer fact we're taking action bc makes us reflect upon our lives

My question is what racism does Latino communities face? Sometimes shouldn't we consider that it's a culture thing, rather than blaming this unclear "white privilege?"

  • 40w ago malefi_cence malefi_cence

Preach @danelljleyva many Latinos are often in denial of their African roots and are unable to differentiate race from ethnicity or nationality. Checking white on an application doesn t make it so.

  • 40w ago lovelivelife88 lovelivelife88

@danelljleyva Educate the masses! Racism in the Latin community is why Afro-Latinx people are afraid/not willing to embrace their African heritage.
