Like all mammals, cows must give birth in order to produce milk. In commercial dairy operations, cows are repeatedly impregnated and give birth once each year. Calves are always taken from their mothers shortly after birth. Some of the female calves are kept to eventually replace their mothers on the milking line. Male calves will be slaughtered as veal calves at a few months old. These young animals are routinely confined alone in calf hutches, denied the chance to socialize or seek comfort from their mothers or each other.
When we choose to consume dairy products, we contribute to the suffering of these affectionate, vulnerable animals. Please consider reducing your consumption of dairy products to help end this cycle of violence and deprivation.

All sad but true. Dairy cows, completely exhausted after multiple forced pregnancies for 4-5 years, are then slaughtered. Normal life expectancy? 25 years. What a disgrace. โ˜น

Just started drinking almond milk. It is delicious and worth a try. One step at a time.

@luc_latour Try other kinds of alternatives too! If you want to try making your own, soak one cup of almonds, then drain and blend with 4 cups water. Sweeten if needed.

Dairy tastes amazing but it's so not worth putting another living being through such a sad and tortuous existence.

I was near a dairy farm in BC and a calf that had been born recently was lying curled up in its isolation chamber. I pet it and there was zero response. It just continued to stay curled up in a ball with its eyes open. That's not natural, pure and simple. A new born needs...well, something! I was heartbroken. It's honestly hard not to get depressed living in such a world of cruelty ๐Ÿ’”

Almond milk is delicious especially for smoothies! And you get used to it in coffee...

Having grown up on a small family dairy farm, I can confirm all of this is true. Slavery, then slaughter. Almond milk and cheese is fantastic, but I'm also looking for more sustainable alternatives to almond / soy.

I learned about this by watching @cowspiracy and literally cried! Cows are so sweet and it's heartbreaking to know that they keep tearing their babies away๐Ÿ˜“. There are so many other yummy options! Coconut milk is my fave! Love that you are spreading the word! ๐Ÿ˜˜
