Jim Denevan founder of OITF, our chef for the evening along with Erik Markegard, 6th generation San Mateo county rancher. Erik runs the spectacularly beautiful Markegard Family Grass Fed with wife Doniga. We gathered the 160 guests and Doniga gave a beautiful inspirational welcome speech. The ranch is located on a stunning 7,000 acre property overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Erik and Doniga practice regenerative agriculture which involves thoughtful care of both land and animals. Among the animals we visited on our path to the table on a green grassy promontory were the gorgeously dressed black and white Belted Galloway cows, AKA Oreo cookie cows.
It was a cool and breezy day on the ranch but we were able to provide our guests with shelter from the wind and plenty of blankets as needed.
We are profoundly thankful to all the folks that helped make it happen: Muriel, Haley, Larry, Lea, Suey, Eden, AnnaLisa, Seth, Colin, Matt, Mark, Zack, Phanie, Emily, Liz, Stella, Justin, Zachry, Bianca, Sam, Marianna, Anna, Joe, Liana, Quince, Quill, and Suzanna! .
