OUR PLANET DAILY  Adventure with us 🌎 #OurPlanetDaily

The Claws of the Kitten 🐅 .

The Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) is the most recognizable of the Tiger species, found throughout the Indian subcontinent. Although the range of the Bengal Tiger is historically very large, these big cats are incredibly rare, and listed as ‘endangered’ on the IUCN Red List due to things such as poaching.

Curious Facts: These creatures typically weigh between 400 and 600 POUNDS, with the largest being recorded at almost 900 POUNDS!

Photo by @FransLanting Jaguars are the largest cats in the Americas, but this male was exceptionally massive. I photographed him in Brazil's Pantanal, a stronghold for jaguars and many other iconic animals like giant anteaters. This Saturday February 2 @ChristineEckstrom and I will do a presentation about “The Land of the Jaguars” in Santa Cruz, California at the Rio Theatre. Please join us if you can. Tickets are at seymourcenter.brownpapertickets.com or check their website. And if you can’t be there, stay tuned for more images from the wild wetlands of South America.

This BEAUTIFUL video shows a Tiger Cub 🐅cozying up to her Mother!
Tiger Cub Facts: Baby Tigers ate born weighing only about 2 POUNDS, a long way from their 300 pound adult counterparts! Also, it takes the Tiger Cub two to three years of maturation to take over their own respective territories!

A translucent blue tang. This is an Acanthurus coeruleus, or a blue tang surgeonfish. They're found from New York to Brazil. This one in particular was discovered just off of Puerto Vallarta, a resort town on Mexico’s Pacific coast.

The blue tang surgeonfish can grow up to 15 inches long, but the adults aren't see-through. It's their young that are small and transparent. Having clear bodies helps conceal the babies from predators. Sea turtles have a close relationship with these little guys: The blue tang surgeonfish nibbles algae and parasites off the turtle’s flippers, getting the nourishment it needs while simultaneously keeping its flippered friend clean and healthy.

Welcome to Sequoia National Park 🌳 .

This national park is home to some of the most fascinating sights in the world, such as the General Sherman Tree, which rises to about 275 feet! In terms of volume, this makes it the LARGEST LIVING THING in the WORLD!

Ferocity of the Black Timber Wolf 🐺

Amazing Facts: Wolves travel in packs, with about ten total wolves in a single pack. When it’s mating season, the Alpha male and his female counterpart are the only Wolves to have offspring, birthing between 1 and 11 pups that the rest of the pack takes care of and teaches so they fit comfortably within the pack!
