I went to this school. And when strangers ask me if I liked it -- I say: "I received an excellent education." The truth is, it has been hard to be proud of this school, because of precisely the attitudes and abuses upon which this article touches.
I'm glad the new administration has started making changes... it's a small start, but it's important. Thank you @choatecurtis for your efforts & honesty in this (a mess which was not your creation). I wish to look on my alma mater with pride.
An old friend drew my attention to this @nytimes article today & I am grateful. On occasions when (as a young student) I witnessed & reported misconduct, I was rebuffed, silenced, & even threatened. At one point, a House Advisor told me: "don't shit where you eat." It was the first time I had ever heard the expression. Decades of abuse were ignored and subsumed by a former administration whose primary concerns were optics & PR...
--Unfortunately, this was to the detriment of the children they were meant to protect and teach. And what we learned were bitter truths. I hope this is truly the end of that era. @gochoate ..?
