This week’s student spotlight nomination was Jessica Srail! Jessica did a great job last week organizing the CBE Freshman cookout and AIChE wanted to thank her for all of her effort and dedication. Jessica is a second year student from North Olmsted, OH in the Cleveland Area and she serves as the Marketing Chair for AIChE, the VP of Finance and Corporate Relations for IBE, Webmaster for the Photography Enthusiast Society, and a Peer Mentor for freshman chemical engineering students. Alongside her CBE responsibilities, Jessica is also taking a business minor as part of the Integrated Business and Engineering (IBE) Honors Program. She is described by her closest friends as smart, a loyal friend, very trustworthy, patient, crafty, organized, caring, and calm while also being too enthusiastic about food and dancing!
Jessica’s best personal quality is her ambition. It drives her to get involved in organizations, where she has found some amazing friends and made wonderful memories already. Her ambitious nature also helps her be outgoing and imaginative while staying realistic about her friendships and ideas. Jessica is really interested in cosmetics. Her career goal is to work as a cosmetic formulations expert to understand the technical side of the cosmetic industry, and then move to management to understand the business side of the makeup industry better. Besides her love of makeup, her hobbies include photography, calligraphy, baking, singing, dancing, and skiing! Jessica is very active in giving back to the community by having volunteered as a tutor back in high school as she loved passing on what knowledge she had. She has continued that love into college with her involvement as a peer mentor for the chemical engineering program. When she can, she picks up volunteering opportunities like baking at the Ronald McDonald House or being the Child Activities Coordinator at the Love-A-Nurse Run.

Congratulations to this week’s student spotlight, AIChE’s very own president, Thomas Menker! Thomas is a fifth-year student from Columbus, OH who is looking forward to graduating in December with his B.S. in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Economics. His best personal quality is his phenomenal work ethic, as shown by his impressive dedication to growing and improving AIChE over the past three years. He is described by his friends as persistent, resilient, and a team player! Aside from his dedication to AIChE, Thomas also participates in intramurals and loves sports, outdoor adventures, and homebrewing. Thomas gives back to the community by volunteering through student organizations with Red Cross blood drives and fundraising to support pediatric cancer at BuckeyeThon.
Along with his incredible accomplishments on campus, Thomas has been diligently working on his skills in the workplace as well! Thomas has had internships with EY, Nestle Purina, Ashland, and Lincoln Electric. At EY, he was working with their technology consulting team to implement a digital product at an agriculture client. At Nestle Purina, he was a manufacturing engineering intern working on project management throughout the plant. At Ashland, Thomas was working in technical service product development with pressure sensitive adhesives. At Lincoln Electric, Thomas was with the process engineering team working to improve the efficiency of manufacturing welding consumables. Great job, Thomas! Keep up the good work!!
