The Palace of Parliament, formerly know as The People’s Palace was a megalomanic project commissioned by former dictator Nicolaeu Caucesceu in the 80’s. It’s the largest palace in the world and the second largest official building after the Pentagon. Designed by a 27 year old female architect and inspired by Caucescus trip to North Korean capital Pyongyang, the palace was part of the dictators grande idea of a new more impressive city centre. 70 blocks of historical buildings were demolished in order to achieve this. Caucesceu never got to experience the palace and city centre in it’s finished form. He and his wife were executed in the Romanian revolution in 1989.
