The Four Basic Nutrients 🥑: Protein! Protein is essential for growth and development. It provides the body with energetic, and is needed for the manufacture of hormones, antibodies, enzymes, and tissues. It also helps maintain the proper acid-alkali balance in the body. When protein is consumed the body breaks it down into amino acids, the building blocks of all proteins. Since protein is essential for life, other foods such as fruits and vegetables, which are alkaline-producing, need to be consumed to balance the body. It is not necessary to get them from meat, fish, poultry, and other complete-protein foods. In fact, because of their high fat content as well as the use of antibiotics and other chemicals in the raising of poultry and cattle, most of those foods should be eaten only organic and in moderation. All soybean products, such as tofu and soy milk, are complete proteins. These foods have high level of fiber, and soy has been found to be the healthiest source of protein, more than any other food. 🥚🍗🍣 Go and eat your proteins folks!

The Four Basic Nutrients: Carbohydrates 🌿 Carbohydrates supply the body with the energy it needs to function. They are found almost exclusively in plant foods, such as fruits, vegetables, peas, grains, and beans. Milk and milk products are the only foods derived from animals that contain carbohydrates. They are divided into two groups-simple carbohydrate and complex ones. Simple carbohydrates, sometimes called simple sugars, include fructose (fruit sugar), sucrose (table sugar), and lactose (milk sugar), as well as several other sugars. Fruits are one of the richest natural sources of simple carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates are also made up of sugars, but the sugar molecules are strung together to form longer, more complex chains. Complex ones include: fiber and starches.
