Here is my grocery hall for the week! So why am I trying to avoid plastic? oh man you guys, where do I even start… plastic is horrible! Its horrible for the environment, and horrible for our health.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Did you know that every bit of plastic ever made still exists😳This stuff does not break down but BREAKS UP and ultimately ends up in our food supply. its pretty darn frightening. Toxins in plastic leak with exposure to heat and overuse. Slowly making their way into our food chain. Plastic is polluting our earth, our people and our animals. Today we are producing approximately 300 million tons of plastic annually and since it doesn’t break down, our children are going to be in deep caca 💩 I say its time to take responsibility by reducing our consumption.

Now I’m not perfect, as you can see my grocery haul still included plastic, but i’m trying, and over time, my impact will be huge. Start making small changes and reduce your plastic consumption today.

Here are some things that I am doing to reduce my plastic consumption;
♻️I bring my own reusable shopping bags everywhere I go, especially grocery shopping. I keep an emergency bag in my car and my purse just in case I need to make a purchase.
♻️I started using cloth produce bags. These are great to use for produce and for bulk shopping.
♻️Mason jars are another great alternative to plastic bags in bulk aisles.
♻️I’ve reduced buying processed packaged food. Processed food is always wrapped in plastic! Always! So no more impulse buys of chips, crackers or candy.
♻️I will no longer buy plastic water bottles!
♻️I purchase from local farmers as much as possible

Hey you guys 👋🏻I'm having one of those days where the sound of screaming kids sends a shiver down my spine 🤣 I might jump in the car and drive off to Mexico for a holiday. Who's coming with me?

Since I'm having one of those days I thought I would make a tasty little salad for myself. @lotusfoods Ramen noodles, purple cabbage, carrots and lots of cilantro oh and I also decided to add a little walnut action for some extra brain health. All these goodies drenched in a maple tahini dressing, yum!

Maple tahini dressing
▪️5 tbsp tahini
▪️2 tbsp maple syrup
▪️2 tbsp coconut aminos or tamari
▪️1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
▪️1 tsp grated ginger
▪️4-6 tbsp water, to reach desired consistency

How to make traditional bone broth?
🔹Place good quality bones in a large pot add water and a splash of apple cider vinegar. Let the mixture sit for 1 hour without boiling 👉🏻the vinegar is necessary to extract minerals from the bones
🔹Next add the vegetables (carrots, celery, onion, garlic, leeks etc) and bring to a boil. Skim the foam from the top and discard.
🔹Reduce to a low simmer, cover, and cook for 24 hours (if you're not comfortable leaving the pot to simmer overnight, turn off the heat and let it sit overnight, then turn it back on and let simmer all day the next day)
☝🏻remember this is bone broth not a regular stock/broth which only boils for a few hours. What we are doing here is extracting the best nutrients from the bones to achieve the healing benefits.
🔹During the last 10 minutes of cooking, throw in a handful of fresh herbs for added flavor and minerals. I also like to add pink salt, pepper and turmeric.

These are called 2 ingredient baby pancakes. I always see a version of these pop up on the internet when I look for Baby Led Weaning ideas. I use to make these for Zoey when she was a baby, so I thought I'd give them a try again. They are made of mashed sweet potato and eggs. You can actually start your baby on these as early as 6 months 👌🏻

Ingredients
🍠1/2 cup sweet potato (I had leftover baked potato)
🍠2 eggs
👉🏻I also added 1/2 tsp pumpkin spice and a handful of frozen blueberries for my 3 year old
.
➕Mash all ingredients together. Preheat cast iron skillet to medium low. Melt a bit of coconut oil and scoop 1-2 tbsp of pancake batter onto your pan. Make sure you let the pancake cook through completely for easier flipping! (2-3 minutes)
.
🚨They are a pain in the butt to flip because unlike a regular pancake they have no flour holding them together. 👍🏻They are however moist and quite delicious. Perfect for a baby (my baby has not tried them yet but I will be making them for her in the near future 😀)

Anyone interested in kiwi Two-Point-Ohhh! This little number will definitely please the kiddos because it's covered in chocolate and it comes on a stick!

▪️Peal and slice kiwi into 1/2 inch rounds. Insert a popsicle stick half way through the kiwi and freeze for half hour.
▪️using double boiler method. Melt fine dark chocolate and dip kiwi pops right into the chocolate.
▪️pop the kiwi popsicles into the freezer until the chocolate hardens.
▪️enjoy with the kiddos

Hello my friends, how's everyone doing? Yesterday we finally set up our Christmas tree 🌲 we usually get it up December 1 but this year we slacked off on the tradition. Oh well.

ALMOND FLOUR BREAD
Today I was looking for a bread alternative to have with our bowl of tomato soup. I came across this super easy rosemary loaf made from almond flour. I thought I'd give it a try and it turned out pretty good👍🏻 If you would like to give it a try here is the recipe

ALMOND FLOUR BREAD by @natureseats
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🥖2 1/4 cups Almond Flour
🥖2 tablespoons coconut flour or buckwheat flour
🥖1/4 cup ground flaxseed
🥖1/2 tsp baking soda
🥖1/2 tsp salt
🥖5 eggs
🥖1.5 tbsp honey
🥖1 tbsp olive oil
🥖1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
🥖2 tsp fresh thyme
🥖2 tsp fresh rosemary
🥖1 tsp granulated garlic
🥖2 tbsp nutritional yeast
Directions
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1️⃣Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a food processor combine dry ingredients and pulse them until combined
2️⃣Add the wet ingredients and combine. Add in the herbs, garlic, and nutritional yeast. Pulse all the ingredients about 8 times. The batter should be thick.
4️⃣the recipe calls for a 9x5 pan I didn't have that size so I poured the dough into a parchment paper cover 9x4 pan.
5️⃣Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean in the center.
6️⃣Cool the bread for 30 minutes before serving it tastes much better cold

I've been running out of ideas on what to do with my stash of acorn squash 🤔so it's become my number one dinner bowl. Check out my take on chili 👇🏻

🍴Acorn squash baked chili bowl with cashew cheese on top🍴

➕Make chili as per usual. Slice acorn squash in half, scoop out the seeds. Stuff the squash with chili and bake in the oven for an hour at 400F

This was absolutely delicious for the adults in the family, the 3 year old however just picked out the beans and called it a day
(If you're wondering how I served the dish for my daughter I basically used a regular bowl with chili and a side of mashed acorn squash)

🙋Sleep deprived mamas this one is for you. Did you know that when we sleep poorly we crave SUGAR!! That's right moms there is a reason why all you want to eat is chocolate covered dates, cookies and cakes. It's called Ghrelin a hormone that controls our cravings for carbohydrates and simple sugars. When you have a poor nights sleep ghrelin levels go up which result in a craving for sugar. So the five hours of sleep that I had last night led me to make this sweet and delicious bowl of oatmeal, blame the ghrelin 😆

☝🏻So what can we do?
🔹Get enough sleep. Easier said than done when you have a teething baby 🤦‍♀️but back to the point Turn Off all electronic devices to help promote your natural melatonin production. Blue light that emits from your phones makes it hard for melatonin release (the sleep hormone)
🔹Go to sleep at a decent time. Read a book, count sheep, meditate try to fall asleep as early as possible give your body a break.

☝🏻If you are still craving sugar
🔹Always choose a better option - Instead of eating an Oreo have a medjool date.
🔹Try to eat a high carb meal in the evening. High glycemic carbs like jasmine rice along with foods that are high in tryptophan (turkey, seafood,beans, nuts and seeds) and melatonin (tart cherries, bananas, oats and tomatoes) this sure makes for an interesting dinner option doesn't it. This will help with those evening sugar cravings

Best treat EVER! This one is a must guys 🤤 it's delicious and is easy to make.

All you need is:
✔️medjool dates
✔️peanut butter
✔️melted chocolate
✔️crushed peanuts

Method
➕Using a knife split dates in half and remove the seed. Melt chocolate chips using a double boiler method (bring a pot of water to a gentle simmer. Place a heat safe bowl (I use glass) on top of the pot so that the bottom does not touch boiling water. add chocolate and stir occasionally until chocolate is smooth) Next fill each medjool half with peanut butter and dip in chocolate. You can leave as is or sprinkle with crushed peanuts. Place your tray of dates in the freezer until chocolate sets.
👉🏻I store my chocolate dates in an airtight glass container in the freezer, they are twice as delicious frozen👍🏻
