Through the eyes of an ORCA Marine Mammal Surveyor.....common dolphins in the Bay of Biscay! #WorldOceansDay

Thank you to ORCA Marine Mammal Surveyor @ctwallbank for the video!

This jaw-dropping photograph of a male Cuvier's beaked whale was taken by passenger John Chubb on board the @sagaholidaysuk cruise in the Mediterranean.
Over 1,000 cetaceans seen by the ORCA team & passengers so far and counting... The Cuvier's beaked whale is the deepest diving marine mammal on the planet - it can hold its breath for 138 minutes & dive to depths up to 3,000m!
If you look closely, you can see the small tooth on this individual. Only males have teeth, just two (one each side) protruding from the lower jaw.

A majestic fin whale, sighted on the @sagaholidaysuk Mediterranean Treasures cruise in 2016.

A truly incredible sight for passengers and the ORCA team on board.
The fin #whale is the second largest whale on the planet, reaching lengths of 26m!
If you would like to see this amazing sight yourself, why not become an ORCA Marine Mammal Surveyor? Course dates now live on our website (see link in bio). 🐋

Striped dolphins - seen in the Bay of Biscay this week on board the @brittanyferries Pont-Aven. This pelagic species are often seen in waters over 1,000m deep.

Is there anything better than being at sea?! Only seeing whales & dolphins can top it! Keep up to date with our Wildlife Officers in the weekly blog; https://brittanywildlifeofficer.wordpress.com

Hop on board the @dfdsuk King Seaways and join our Wildlife Officers in the on board Wildlife Centre! When out on deck, you might even be lucky enough to spot an elusive harbour porpoise - this individual was sighted earlier this month! White-beaked dolphins & minke whales are also sighted regularly during the summer months!

A truly magnificent sight seen today from the @brittanyferries Cap Finistere vessel! A breaching fin whale, the second largest whale on the planet!

Wildlife Officer Hazel: "[the whale] breached out of the water close to the ship - a truly wonderful spectacle to behold! Lots of passengers were out on deck with us to witness this incredible animal's behaviour, including a budding young marine biologist who had never seen a dolphin before, let alone a whale!
We saw lots of dolphins too, leaving her and the other passengers with huge smiles on their faces as they left the ship. Hopefully they have been inspired to care about these magnificent cetaceans and their conservation!" #whale #conservation #marine #wildlife #wildlifephotography #jump

Hurrah! It's the start of our 2017 Wildlife Officer season in the Bay of Biscay with @brittanyferries During the training week we sighted these magnificent acrobatic striped dolphins! Keep up to date with sightings and on board life in the blog: Brittanywildlifeofficer.wordpress.com

Fantastic day on board with @dfdsuk, celebrating 10 years of our Wildlife Officer programme & working together. A great relationship between a charity & a business. We celebrated on board the King Seaways with Michaela Strachan. All disembarked feeling inspired & enthused about North Sea wildlife 🐋

Using ferries & cruise ships as our platforms for wildlife watching & recording is our speciality! Have you read our State of European Cetaceans report yet?
