Low Lunge with backbend Tips:
1. Keep your front knee stacked over your foot & not moving forward, or out to the sides
2. Allow the weight of your body to sink down into your hips, feeling the stretch in your back hip flexor
3. Tuck the tailbone under, & as you sink into the hips, lift your spine up & out of the pelvis
4. Keeping the spine long, start to bend backwards. Open & lift your chest. Create length with every in breath & bend deeper with every out breath

Once upon a time, there was an Evil 'Stepmother' who had a beautiful young daughter called Cinderella. In an awesome act of rebellion, Cinderella sooooo went to the ball..... And, as it happens, she managed to catch the eye of a Prince who transformed her from a cellar girl, under the thrall of the Evil 'Stepmother', into a Princess. Now, the Evil 'Stepmother' was furious & completely eclipsed by Cinderella's beauty. For Day 5 of #BendsAndFolds we are folding with #pyramidpose or #parsvottanasana & I went for a twisted, prayer hand variation ⭐️
Pyramid Pose Tips:
1. Place your back foot at a 45 degree angle - Not having it angled will make it difficult for you to keep your hips square
2. Align the front foot with the heel of your back foot, or the centre of it's arch
3. On an out breath fold forwards & transfer your weight onto your right leg
4. Ground down with both feet
5. Press into the base of the big toe of your right foot to protect the knee
6. Pull up with your kneecaps & keep the legs engaged to help the hamstrings release
7. Pull your right hip back & push your left hip forward to keep them in line with each other

For Day 4 of #BendsAndFolds we are back to bending with #camelpose & I chose #floatingcamel

Floating Camel Tips:
1. Start from a kneeling position with your knees hip width apart
2. Reach back & take a hold of your feet with your hands, wrapping the fingers underneath the tops of your feet so they're in contact with the mat
3. Lean your weight back & push into your hands to straighten the arms
4. Start to create the bend - lift your hips up & let your head hang back
5. Use the strength of your quads to float your knees off of the mat & shift your weight (carefully!) backwards further
6. Use the backs of your fingers to adjust & find the balance & push your hips up as high as you can

* Expect good things & they will come to you - like strokes, strokes are good...
* Make sure you loudly announce your satisfaction whenever something meets your approval with whatever the human equivalent of purring is.....
* If something looks interesting to you, pounce! After wiggling your bottom of course....
* Accept that you are completely awesome
* If you're hungry; eat. If you're tired take a nap, even if it is on your human Dad's laptop bag...... * Ensure theres at least 30 minutes in the day where you go completely & utterly mental
* Essentially, wake up - be awesome - & then go back to bed 😋

For Day 3 of #BendsAndFolds we have #ardhabaddhapadmapaschimottanasana (try saying that 3 times quickly!), or Half-Bound Lotus Forward Fold
⭐️
Tips:
1. Begin from staff pose, with your legs straight out in front of you, & bend your left leg (I'm showing my left side) so that the knee points out to the side - this will help to open the hip joint
2. Make sure your knee joint is completely closed - this will protect the knee from twisting (which it really doesn't like doing!)
3. Place your hand under your left foot & lift it up & over bringing it to your right hip crease - think heel to belly button & have it as high in the hip crease as you can
4. Relax your left leg - don't tense around the knee joint - just let it relax down towards the mat
5. If you feel comfortable here, reach around your back with your left hand & bind your lotus foot
6. Square your shoulders towards your straight leg as you reach forward & hold the outside of your right foot
7. Keep the right foot engaged & flexed with the toes pointing up to the ceiling as you complete the fold. If at any point you experience any knee pain please back off immediately - no posture is worth damaging your knees for! ⭐️

Balance is all about being centred. When we lose our centre & sense of self, usually 'bad' things happen. We feel scattered & don't respond to life from our true selves. All those times you've done something you regret? It's probably when you weren't acting from your centre. Nothing in life is worth losing your centre over. Ever. Yet, I know I do it much more often than I would like 😅 And thats ok - no one's perfect (least of all me) - Just keep pulling it all back to your centre, & one day maybe, just maybe, the ego will get the message 🙏🏻

Anuvittasana tips:
1. Strongly engage the legs by drawing your kneecaps upwards
2. Tuck your tailbone under slighty
3. Engage your core to support & stabilise your spine - imagine 'zipping up' your lower belly & pull up your pelvic floor
4. Make the spine long by reaching upwards - imagine the crown of your head reaching up towards the ceiling
5. On an outbreath start to bend backwards - keep the legs strong & think about lengthening & opening the front of your body
6. Push your hips forward & keep the chest lifted to keep the bend open & even

What does flexibility really mean anyway? Obviously, we can look at it physically, but how about being flexible on the inside? It's so easy to become rigid in our way of thinking & our habitual emotional responses. Reality is constantly changing, so why do we find it so hard to? Maybe it's because we cling on to the illusion of control - when we really don't have any. Truly accepting that can come as a massive relief! Perhaps try to do something differently today - based on what is actually happening, rather than a preset response or story we have in our heads. Approach life with the attitude of flexibility & see what happens 🙏🏻
