SOUND ON!! On today's episode of #MeetMyGoatMonday, a lesson on love! I couldn't help myself... .
It is breeding season around here which means the smells, sounds, and sights are at their peak of interest. The blubbering is one of our favorite sounds. Inside the pen is our 4 young bucks. We like to think of them as teenage boys uncontrollably "in love" with every girl they see. In addition to making us all laugh a little, they help to attract the ladies. .
Nova is really enjoying all of the attention. You may notice that we have clipped her collar to the fence. We sometimes do this in breeding if the girl is more interested in the boy that is not her chosen mate. She obviously isn't trying to go anywhere and is really loving this. She can look at the boy she really wants while the buck we have chosen can get the job done. .
We never force a breeding on our girls. If they are in proper heat, they really want it. Twice this week, two of our girls woke us up at 5am by calling out. We rushed out to the goat yard to make sure everything was ok. They were standing right at their gate and when allowed to go out of their yard, they went and stood next to the boys' yard, wiggling their tails and looking back and forth between the boys and us as if to say, "Can I pretty please?" It is the natural cycle of the goat and that makes me feel great about what we do.
This video was taken last week. 3 weeks from now, we will be able to run a blood test to confirm her pregnancy. If successful, she will be due January 29th. Yay for babies and more of our Baby Goats & Yoga!!
