Midterm week is finally coming to a close! Some of our students are letting off a little extra steam by heading to Pippas Gym, which all NYU Accra students have free access to. How are you de-stressing from midterms?

We love field trips here at NYU Accra! Professor Atinga took his health policy students to Dodowa to learn more about Ghana’s Community-based Health Planning and Services program.

Yesterday, five of our undergraduate students in β€œThe Black Atlantic” course traveled to Sesemi, Abokobi for a field trip. They visited the Danish plantation-turned-missionary site that now serves as a museum to the land’s history.

You can usually find NYU Accra students catching up on work over a coffee or tea at Vide e Caffe. It’s just a short walk from the dorms, making it a popular and convenient study spot β€” especially on Sundays!

What would our library (and NYU Accra in general, tbh) be without Chris? Chris started at NYU Accra while he was completing his national service, and he has been with us for almost our entire existence! He is our resident librarian and one of our amazing and kind CRAs. We appreciate everything he does to make NYU Accra as wonderful an experience as it is!

SEPTEMBER 9TH, 2018
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
This weekend, the NYU ACCRA students had the opportunity to visit the city of Cape Coast and take a tour of Elmina Castle.
The history of colonization and the Trans-Atlantic slave trade can be traced all along the coast of West Africa and this castle was one of the main ports of human exports.
The students were given a tour and were given a true history lesson on the horrors of slavery.
Later on that night, the students and Professor had a conversation about what this piece of history means to mankind, not just people of African decent, and how we as humans can make small changes within ourselves and our surrounding to ensure that such a dark period of history is never replicated. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

After two weeks in Ghana and a completed school week, it’s time to DANCE!! πŸ’ƒπŸΏπŸ’ƒπŸΏπŸ’ƒπŸΏ

This morning, the NYU ACCRA students were taught about the history and culture of Ghanaian traditional dances by Professor Terry Bright Ofosu of the School of Performing Arts at the University of Ghana πŸ‡¬πŸ‡

β€œKnowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family.” We are saddened at the loss of Kofi Annan. He represented Ghana well in all his endeavors, particularly as Secretary General of the UN. He served as an example of how we should all work toward a better future for humanity.
