This week started off in a bittersweet way as we said goodbye to #fospice princess April. Words cannot explain how lucky I feel for being given the opportunity to meet Tracy—an incredibly selfless and devoted animal rescue hero—and to document her relationship with April, which was already like family just two months into their time together when we did this beautiful photo shoot in Central Park.
When I first started volunteering with @fosterdogs in 2015, my very first assignment was a fospice photo shoot. I was nervous about getting involved in something so sensitive, but that feeling was quickly replaced with a deep honor and reverence for this program and our inspirational caretakers. Even though the loss never gets easier, these shoots continue to be my favorite shoots to do, to share, and to treasure forever.
Thank you to all of the people and organizations who helped April and supported Tracy throughout this journey: @fosterdogs, @shelterchic, @susiesseniordogs, @chloekardoggian, @_ab.c, @worthstreetvet, @barkbox, @maisondepawz, @harrybarker_co, @melissaottstadt, and everyone else from this amazing rescue community. See more photos of April in recent posts from @fosterdogs, @tracy_michele_, and @shelterchic.
From April’s amazing mama @tracy_michele_: “My precious little girl April crossed the 🌈 today. We had almost five months together, and it was so special, and I'm so happy I could be her family and shower her with love for that time. Thank you to @shelterchic and @susiesseniordogs for pulling her from the shelter, and @fosterdogs for spoiling her with treats and toys, and @nycpetphotographer for these photos which I will treasure forever. I am so grateful for the time with that feisty little babe, and wouldn't change one minute. I am so blessed to have been a part of the #fospice program and to have had the opportunity to give April a beautiful end to her life, surrounded with love, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. 💛”
