Nature's Valley Trust  Nature's Valley is nestled within a forest on one of the most pristine coastlines of South Africa. We are here to protect it

Another penguin rescued this morning! We love how the Plett Animal Stranding Network works, and are proud to be part of it. We were alerted to a stranded penguin on Lookout Beach this morning via a message to our Facebook page, and immediately sent out an alert to the network. Monica from Offshore Adventures was quick on the scene and manage to get the little chap. @markbrownsa then transported him safely to @tenikwa_wildlife, where he will receive the best possible care. #ShareTheShores #conservation #conservationinaction #plettitsafeeling

Just a quick message to say thank you to our incredible supporters, and to invite them to come collect a supporters plaque for their homes here in the Valley! #plettitsafeeling #conservation #naturesvalley

One of the ways we celebrated World Oceans Day today was with a fundraiser lunch at @thefatfish_sa in Plett. Dr @gwen_penry, accompanied by Rocky the Oystercatcher, gave an insightful talk on our @wwfsouthafrica Green Trust funded sustainable marine tourism program. She also spoke about her recent work putting satellite tags on our resident Brydes Whales in the bay.
All this accompanied by a two course @wwfsassi friendly lunch!

A BIG thanks to The Fat Fish for hosting us, and to all who came an supported the event! #worldoceansday ##ShareTheShores #WhereIsRocky #RoamingRocky #SustainableTourism #plettitsafeeling

Sunbirds everywhere! Intern and MSc student @Auroraleeann has been working on her sunbird feeding project for a month now and we are hoping for some exciting results.
Since May, she (with the help of our other interns) has hung 18 nectar feeders around the valley in places such as private gardens, Phyl Martin Park, and even the NVT office on Lagoon Drive in the hope of observing the birds' feeding behaviors.
Each day, she conducts 45-minute observations on three different feeders, recording which species and genders visit, how they behave towards each other, and how long they feed. She has even spotted a few birds with rings on them!
Her project will continue here in the valley until the end of the month, so if you see a shady-looking American sneaking into gardens with binoculars, don't panic or call the police: she has permission from the homeowners. #plettitsafeeling #conservation #research #sunbirds

Otters galore! These great pics of Otter spoor were taken by @tanya.mckenzie2 in Nature's Valley recently! Great to see lots of activity from these magnificent animals in the valley!

This awesome Otter was filmed by UK intern @claire.amelie at Matjies River yesterday while doing fieldwork with @craigmidgley_photo on our Fisherman Impact Program. Not the type of fisherman they planned to interview, but a welcome encounter nonetheless! #ShareTheShores #plettitsafeeling

Rocky had a full house yesterday at the men's Probus lunch In Plett, where @markbrownsa gave a talk on our #ShareTheShores program. Getting close to winter so Rocky wrapped up in one of #ShareTheShores buffs to keep warm! #BOTY2018 #WhereIsRocky #RoamingRocky

Happy International Day of Biodiversity! We celebrate with this great pic taken a few days ago by Corinna Fernley at Robberg 1 beach near the Beacon Island Hotel. This was a bird ringed by @a.disaster.piece at Sanctuary Beach on 25 December 2015, and forms part of our #ShareTheShores program. We measured the impact people and companion animals have on the breeding success of beach breeding birds. Using innovative conservation awareness and intervention tools we have successfully been able to mitigate some of these effects, leading to improved breeding in Plovers through integrated beach management. Small changes working together can make a big difference to local biodiversity!

Rocky loved learning about marine research in Plett last night. Dr @gwen_penry gave a great talk to BirdLife Plettenberg Bay on two of her projects: 1) The new NVT NMU marine sustainable tourism project funded by Nedbank Green Trust and 2) her recent tagging project on Brydes Whales here in the bay! #BOTY2018 #WhereIsRocky #ShareTheShores

Dr @gwen_penry did some boat maintenance and trip preparation training for our marine team this afternoon. It was great to learn all the ins and outs of what it takes to keep a boat like Fluke in good condition and ready for action!

From everyone at the NVT team, especially the Oystercatchers and Plovers we all love, May the 4th be with you! #ShareTheShores #BOTY2018 #WhereIsRocky #plettitsafeeling

This fabulous pic of a color ringed African Black Oystercatcher was snapped by Corinne Fernley at Lookout Beach on 1st May. It was originally ringed as a chick by Johan Huisamen of CapeNature on Robberg on 21 Feb 2008. We re-trapped it as a breeding adult on Lookout Beach on 11 December 2017, when we added on the color ring P76. A great resighting for our database! #ShareTheShores #BOTY2018 #WhereIsRocky
