Mark Brown  Nature's Valley is nestled within a forest on one of the most pristine coastlines of South Africa. We are here to protect it 🐦 🐟 🌍 🌱

A big NVT thumbs up to @spilhausbrewery who have donated a case of their finest to us! Some lucky person will get to take this home at our AGM tonight! Come celebrate a great year with us at 18:30 tonight!

The good food. The time spent with family. The beautiful summer sun. We would like to wish all of you a wonderful summer Christmas this year!

The African Black Oystercatcher is the 2018 bird of the year, and NVT is proud to be partnering with BirdLife South Africa to raise awareness of these incredible birds! From today you can buy one of these AWESOME pin badges at the NVT office!

A long day in the field ended with some great ringing at Lookout Beach today. This adult African Black Oystercatcher was a retrap, having been ringed In February 2008 as a chick on Robberg by Johan Huisamen from CapeNature. After adding one of our color rings to facilitate resightings, it was back on its nest. Next up was a fantastic female White-fronted Plover, one of the few pairs on this beach with both partners unbanded. After getting her bling she too returned to her motherly duties. Keep an eye out for these color ringed beauties on our beaches! #ShareTheShores

Happy Monday! This time next week our holiday program kicks off! We hope you will be joining us for some of the events.

This African Black Oystercatcher was photographed by Belgium Intern Bruno Mels while doing shorebird fieldwork on Lookout Beach in Plettenberg Bay this week. We were able to read the ring number when zooming in - 681177 was ringed as a chick on 18th December 2002, near the Keurbooms River mouth by Johan Huisamen. At almost 15 years old, this is the first time it has been reported on the Safring system since being ringed! The record for African Black Oystercatchers is close to 30 years, so hopefully we will still come across this chap for many years to come!

This African Black Oystercatcher is the 2018 Bird of the Year, and NVT is proud to be working alongside BirdLife South Africa on material to celebrate this incredible species. #ShareTheShores

Our new office sign is up! Here is Brittany, who designed it, with it installed - tell us what you think! A BIG NVT thanks to Gordon Hayward who sponsored the sign for us!

Great pic of spoor of a female leopard photographed by Lyn Carstens at the entrance to Phyl Martin Park right here in Nature’s Valley on Friday! Great to have one around again! UPDATE: experts can’t agree on this one, so verdict is still out!

What an awesome day! The NVT team took part in BirdLife Plettenberg Bay's annual year end Featherchase birding competition, and after a fantastic mornings birding was surprised to find we had won! Well done team!

Just a few quick pics from this mornings Penguin release! A BIG NVT thanks to All who came out to support the penguins, and well done to Tenikwa Wildlife, BirdLife South Africa, and BirdLife Plettenberg Bay for a great day!

Some more fabulous rehabilitation work done by the folks at Radical Raptors! This Spotted Eagle Owl and Peregrine Falcon both had a rough time but were carefully patched up and are ready for release! The NVT team ringed them today in the run up to their return to the wild. #raptors #rehabilitation #ringing #conservation #plettitsafeeling

We teamed up with local birders from BirdLife Plettenberg Bay this weekend to participate in the 4th International #WaderConservationWorldWatch, hosted by Wader Quest this weekend! Collectively we added data for 20 wader species from the Plett and Nature’s Valley region to this effort! So great being part of this global event again!
