I am disappointed in the service from Woodford Car Hire @kingshaka_airport, as surely they should check these cars before hiring them out.

When one rents a car, there is a certain level of consumer expectation that the vehicle will be delivered in good mechanical repair, and with safe tires, which are relatively new

Tire maintenance issues, including tire tread depth, penetrating objects in tires, improperly repaired holes, or low air pressure are safety issues that are supposed to be dealt with by the car rental company through a process of inspections and preventative maintenance services.

On the 24th of December at 9pm I rented this Mercedes Benz C-class, which I needed it for my travel to Eastern Cape. About 180 km and after receiving the car from Woodford, the break wear indicator turned on and we started hearing a squealing noise from the breaks. We called Woodford to report it but we were told it’s not something major.

The real problem was on the 27th when we had a puncher on the rear left wheel, we discovered to our horror that the tyre had no tread – in fact all two rear were in a similar, poor, condition. Clearly there was a danger here. We had travelled from Durban on the N2 at speeds of 120km/h the previous day. It was really fortunate that the tyre gave us problem on a road at only 40km/h.

I am so incensed by this experience with Woodford Car Hire, and in particular the way in which they appear to be putting paying customers in unroadworthy vehicles, that on 3rd of January I will be meeting with ACSA management to report this. I’ve reported the case to eThekwini Metro police, who also gave me a ticket for a bad tyre. I will get KZN Department of Transport to go check Woodford Car Hire King Shaka Airport fleet. I strongly feel that there are more cars in the same condition as this one and putting pupils lives in danger.

The practices of this company are simply unacceptable and someone needs to be held to account.

I would strongly recommend against renting a vehicle with Woodford Airport until we are sure they’ve changed their ways of inspecting cars.
