I got the anglo-frisian ᛠ (ear/earth) rune tattooed by @solawende a week ago. It's the last rune in the anglo-frisian/anglo-saxon rune sequence, the futhorc. Also my first tattoo. Of all the runes, ᛠ is probably the rune with the darkest meaning to it. It is quoted as "death personified" or the rune of dying.
in the rune poem it writes: - ᛠ is horrible to every warrior, when the corpse quickly begins to cool and is laid in the bosom of the dark earth, prosperity declines, happiness passes away and covenants are broken. -
for me the rune stands for the numerous flirts with death I had and still have due to chronic depression. the rune does not only talk about death if one reads it carefully though. It reminds of happiness and growth, of warrior codes.
As I have not really known true happines in life due to my situation, it reminds me there is still more to live for.
If at one point I decide the rune does not reflect me anymore, I'll have it turned into a bindrune ᚩ (oss) by just having one line added under the right hook. Oss stands for god(s) but also 'mouth/speech'. since the tattoo is also situated on the throat, which has a double meaning to me personaly.
