Rebekah has been with NMBC for over 15 years. She has participated in the company as a contract dancer, coach, choreographer, and instructor. She has been fortunate to work with a wide variety of directors, choreographers, and dancers throughout her time with the company, including Peggy Lyman and Peter Pucci, as well as original works by Vladimir Conde Reche, Jolie Sutton-Simballa, and Natalie Harris, among others. This is Rebekah's third Choreographer's Collective.
This year, Rebekah has choreographed a quartet to Disturbed's cover of "Sound of Silence". This contemporary work is an interpretation of the music and the concept behind it. With the advances in technology and an evolving idea of how humans should live their daily lives, we have fallen out of touch with what really makes us human: our connection to each other. We strive to live in a world that defies labels and boundaries, yet we have become increasingly polarized and reject the idea of reaching out to those who need it, and refuse to acknowledge those reaching out to us. How can we become better human beings when we rarely look beyond our own arm's length? When will we stop hiding behind our phones and computers and begin truly caring for one another? We silence each other with our lack of connection and our inability to show true love and compassion. "Sound of Silence" calls on us to break the walls that divide us; it challenges us to look long and hard at ourselves and how we can change our world merely by caring for one another.
