My latest pattern, Cataraqui Creek, has been published in @knit_picks "Renew" collection. With the weather warming up I think I might cast on one for myself in a light sport weight cotton.

My newest shawl, Standing Waves has been published! Any two skeins of fingering weight yarn - mine uses @zenyarngarden serenity silk single. The pattern is free on Ravelry until the end of today. Photo by the wonderful @kaytealine.

Reflecting in 2017...lots of colour and risks taken this year. More than I thought before looking through my projects. I took on new commissions and challenged myself as a designer, challenges which have yielded results that I'm excited to share with you in 2018. Happy new year to you all, and may 2018 bring you peace and joy. πŸ’—πŸŽ‰

Some impromptu Christmas knitting for my step-grandmother. One mitten down, one to go! Loving this @lichenandlace super bulky 😍

Finished! Two 50g balls of @borgodepazzi Cedro in Ecru became this lovely cabled scarf. The pattern is the result of my reverse-engineering an old threadbare scarf brought to me by a customer. I hope Tupper enjoys it!

Sneak peek from the photo shoot @kaytealine and I had yesterday. I love this picture because I'm such an anxious model and Caitlynn did an amazing job of making me feel comfortable - so much so that some genuine happy laughter was captured. I can't wait to see the rest of the roll!
This week my test knitters finished their testing of the Standing Waves shawl and with some minor tweaking it will soon be ready to be released. Stay tuned! πŸ‘πŸ’‹

Today's work: a commission from a charming gentleman who wanted his threadbare scarf recreated for him. It's a fun knit, and not one I would have thought to seek out without prompting. #knitting #knittersofinstagram #knitdesign #instaknit #cableknitting #indiedesigner

The shawl stayed put all day, a big soft hug, just as I'd hoped. It's seems silly to say that a scrap of fabric could help in saying goodbye to someone I loved so much. It did do something though. It gave me something to do with my grief with its creation. It kept me warm and grounded through out her celebration of life service. And it will forever remind me of how wonderful it was to be hugged and loved by her.
It's going to take more time to process the loss and I don't think I'll ever truly be over it, but countless people have assured me that grief does get easier to carry with time. One thing at a time.

Grief is strange.
And it doesn't make for pretty instagram pictures, but I don't care.
We lost my grandmother last week. Since then desperately knitting my feelings into this shawl. I pulled the softest yarn in the shop, took some wooden needles and cast on. The pattern is an improvised shawl, which starts with casting on sixty stitches and increasing at five points so that eventually, hopefully, it will curl around my shoulders. A hand knit hug.
I miss Gram's hugs. This won't substitute. But it's something.
Gram originally thought my knitting was cute, but silly as a hobby. Knitting was a chore for her. Something you did for your children because it was economical (in the sixties anyways) or for the war effort because the boys at the front needed warm socks and balaclavas. Knitting as a hobby made about as sense to her as washing dishes for fun.
Gram was the (probably unwilling) recipient of my first ever scrap of knitting, a pot holder full of gaping holes. She was, as always, very gracious. Years later knit her a purple mohair-blend cabled vest, which was openly treasured. Everyone in the retirement home knew who'd made it and she made my mother wash it for her because she didn't trust the staff with it. She loved it.
Gran was never stingy with her praise or affection. She also had no trouble telling you what she really thought of any given thing.
I miss her so much.
I'm going to go back to knitting. I love you, Gram.

I'm so in love with this shawl! I can't wait to share the pattern with you! Currently it's in the hands of my test knitters, and hopefully it will be published by Christmas. πŸ˜€πŸ’œπŸ‘
