A while ago I did a teeny tiny good deed - I used my blogging contacts to source some items for the Blackburn Road Runners Winter Warmer goodie bag. It didn't cost me anything and I was supporting a community that has already supported my own running group many times over 🏃💨 Today I received a 'thank you' from BRR in the form of a card with a personal message, a gift card for a sports shop and my (now favourite) running photo on a block to hang on the wall with my medals. I may have shed a few happy tears. 😘😆 The lesson of the day... you reap what you sow. And to be part of such a great community is a total honour. It's a double edged sword though... I have an official invitation to join them on next year's Winter Warmer... THAT BLOODY HILL AGAIN!! 😂😂 #BRRStrong 💪
It's hard to explain the importance of this medal but it signifies the beginning of the #FitbitchesMOVEment and the people who believed in my idea. I'm hoping that this small but meaningful community will become part of many people's lives this year and, one day, in the not too distant future, we can have a medal of our own.
Today it's our end-of-plan Celebration Run. For the last 9 weeks, a few hundred people in the Blackburn area have been working their way towards a fitness goal either through running or power walking. I know I talk about this a lot but it's one of my main focuses to well-being... and to see how this community comes together four times a year and runs (no pun intended) seamlessly and smoothly always amazes me. The support received and friendships made are unique. This picture represents me and my constant battle with myself. But it's ok to struggle and to strive to be better. This isn't about looking good DURING a run - its about self-improvement and working towards a personal goal. And having lots of fun on that journey. Today it's another 10k for me and I'm going to take the group motto and #runlikeyoustolesomething ... well maybe for the last 10 meters.
