Had the pleasure to race #Miami703 yesterday:
Swim @rokasports Viper Pro: the swim venue doesn’t allow for a swim warmup so I decided to go for a short run. The ocean felt like a washing machine combined with a strong current that would fight us for the first 2/3 of the course. Swam with the front pack until the last turn around when I lost some feet and got dropped in the chop 😂🌊. Still need to gain more open water experience 👍🏻 Bike: @quintana_roo_tri PR-6, @knightcomposites 95’s @pioneercycleusa us dual sided ⚡️
First 5 miles are through downtown Miami with a lot of corners and lots of dangers on the road. Once onto the highway the tail wind made for really fast opening 20 miles. The course had a small 2 loop section at the turn around so it made it easy to see the other competitors and calculate time. I rode to my heart rate and solely focused on keeping steady. Since this was my first race in humidity I didn’t want to chase. Coming back into town the head wind was getting more and more intense and there was no hiding from it. I kept a high cadence and caught a couple guys who got detached from the front group.
Run: @baseperformance salts @nike speed rival 6’s
First mile felt great and then my abdomen seized up, I couldn’t take full breaths anymore. I was cramping pretty bad.. I slowed to a walk and chugged as much Gatorade, @redbull , and base salts to try and get back in the fight. It took a little bit of time before I could run again but the damage was done, I couldn’t run hard but just fast enough to not cramp up. I held on and went into a really dark place to finish 8th for the second time this year! Stoked for two top 10’s.
I’m overall happy about this race, I learned a lot about myself and that I can do a lot to improve in humid races. It was awesome to race with two fellow Frenchmen and the Cuban missile, @TrevorDelsaut, @fredlimousin , @iamivandominguez , always fun to race with friends. With every hard race I believe that there are more positives instead of negatives. I’m very fortunate to be where I am today thanks to all my sponsors, friends and family! Thank you for the amazing support this season and see you all next year 🤘🏻
