The North Face of Annapurna is quite formidable. Here, my partner, Michael Kennedy, surveys the ice fall guarding the lower mountain which is skirted on the left scrambling through the rock. MK and I climbed with Ed Viesturs and Viekka Gustafson in 2000. We failed to summit after finding deadly serac collapse conditions that year from a massive unstable ice cliff above our route, the Dutch Rib. We all happily tucked our tails and returned safe and sound.
