Long Post Alert 🚨 💥 ⚠️ So this past week for me has been pretty hard mentally, I’d been working so hard with my blinkers on, all distractions aside to get back to the TDF that since being given then big N-O I’ve been a bit lost on what to do and where to begin my day.
To not make this a self centered, broken athlete style post I’d like to tell you about my day, because it was a great reminder of why cycling might just be the best thing in the world.
I’ve been having trouble getting on my bike, not really knowing what to do with my form, shut it down, let it flow, build, it’s hard.
@pelotonbrief knowing me well, suggested that we take a road trip to visit @philgaimon to go ride the @chasingcancellara
At first I had to giggle, a fondo? No way Man. I should be at the TDF. Then I thought about it. I love my bike. Phil is an old friend. Switzerland is beautiful and it will force me to ride my bike 😝
I was a little timid turning up to the event, because I realized I’d be talking to one of my all time heroes coming through my early cycling years, having fought with him in some of the most insane classics like Strade-B, telling him I’m here because I kinda have no plans for July. What happened? He told me about the years he got the same call saying he wasn’t right for the TDF team. Spartacus! Not getting a spot!??? Ok, I’m not on his caliber, so you know. Gave me some perspective. It was great to see him looking so healthy and happy in his retirement. It’s inspiring in a whole different way.
3000m elevation in 80km and I loved every pedal stroke. I met Phil’s friend @jeffmahin who’s a celebrity chef & owns 11 restaurants... 11! And Natasha @badkarmamonkey killing it with @traderjoeslist I am inspired by people who are so capable in life who also have fun. Need to learn that from him😎
So I rode with Jeff, Phil and @fabian_cancellara all day and it just reminded me of one thing. The bike brought me here, the people I’m surrounded by are all here for the same love and flow we get in life from the bike and that not much else matters. When your mind is clear, you can start looking forward. .
Huge thanks to Fabian and his event for having me, and team Phil.
