Yay! Finally got all my #zerowaste essentials. Now slowly trying to flush out all the plastic in our home and replace everything with more #environmentallyfriendly options like wood, bamboo, or metal. Being a biologist and environmentalist I couldn't ignore the huge social issue we have with our garbage and plastic and the huge impact it has on wildlife. So I made the decision that just #recycling and #composting are not enough. Off course this means buying less packaged goods and more bulk stuff (like the great shampoo and soap shown here!) but also being more conscious about what you buy: if you have to buy things in plastic (like me, being gluten free means finding other options can be hard) then try and buy bigger quantities, buying one big container of yogurt is less material than 20 individual packaged little ones. It's also choosing things packaged in glass or metal containers (easier recycled), and taking my own bags and buying loose produce. There are so many alternatives to mainstream products, and easy to access now with online shopping. All these are small choices that can make a huge difference. It also means I'm being healthier cause I can't buy all that #junkfood and I have actually been saving money as I'm investing in products that have a longer life than plastic. It's easy and I think everyone should start to be more conscious of what they are buying and the impact it has! .
