Brain cancer awareness collab mani 💡
#braincancer #awareness #braincancerawareness
A few weeks ago, Gemma @_nailgems_ invited me and other talented nail artists to join the collab for brain cancer awareness. As I witnessed the damage that brain cancer and its treatment can cause in my own family, I was imediately on board. Swipe left to see the whole collage and don't forget to check #nailingbraincancer to see everyones designs.
In 1991 my father was diagnosed with a Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in the brainstem and had to be transported and operated in Germany as the procedure was not possible in my country. I was 9 at the time and didn't quite understand what was happening apart from knowing he was ill. After the surgery he had to stay in the hospital for a year and underwent a series of radiation treatments during that time. I only have a few vague memories of him in that period. All the treatments were succesful however and he got a second chance with life. He completely changed his diet and mentality and tried to eliminate all of the stress from his life. For over a decade things were going well, but then we noticed he was getting forgetful and was coming home with strange injuries. It took years for the doctors to diagnose him with dementia and epilepsy and the beginnings of parkinsons. From then on things escalated and he had a few close calls with death but always recovered. All the lapses however weakend his imune system, his hart and other organs. After a series of pneumonias, he died in late 2014. It was hard seeing someone you love suffer so much and slowly dye before your eyes. So I decided to keep the good memories of him instead and learn from the experience: don't stress too much as stress doesn't resolve anything; be positive, negativity only brings more negative things; live in the present as you never know what the future may bring, no matter how much you plan for it; spend your time with the people you love and care about; don't forget about yourself, you're not being selfish if you need to take care of yourself!
