@Regrann from @waletejumade - This man right here, showed and taught me what the word "Mentor" REALLY is.
I see many mentors who trample on their proteges and treat them like their lives do not matter and they are nothing without them. Some are also in the habit of intimidating and humiliating others into submission to their mentorship. Mentoring should not be forced.
@nadesanya once told me, "I am not doing you a favour by mentoring you, you are the one doing me a favour and the best way to do that is for you to make me proud". That statement hasn't left me.
Your mentor shouldn't be in competition with you, neither should you dare be seen as competing with him/her. However, you shouldn't also feel less than yourself around your mentor. If anything, his or her presence should reinvigorate your confidence and cause you to live your dreams to the zenith.
Mentors are meant to build you up, not pull you down. To chastise you if need be, but do so in love and not hatred.
I have seen people who have lost themselves - dreams, just by their choice of a mentor. Don't be quick to describe someone as your mentor, not even me!
You may have to reconsider who and what a mentor is to fully appreciate the gains of mentorship.
Thank you, Pst. @nadesanya for being so selfless and mentoring not just me, but a whole lot of others and doing so not just in words but also INDEEDS.
May the Lord reward your labour of love. And lastly, Sir, I think you should write a book on mentoring to address and correct the misrepresentations and misuse of the relationship.
Loftier Heights, Sir!
