#TravelTuesday 🚢 🇮🇹 A look back on board @VikingCruises #VikingSky. This blissful #OceanCruise was a trip around Italy’s boot, with stops in Naples, Sicily, Crotone, Puglia and Venice. Plus a bonus visit to Croatia... #GameOfThrones country people! ⚔️ 🇭🇷 🐉
Hubby @PeterStougaard is a certified (and happy) workaholic. This one week #ItalianSojourn cruise was perfect for his schedule. It was also his first cruise ever and he absolutely loved the Viking experience (a maximum of 930 passengers on board this “small ship”). Since the #VikingOceanCruise ships are smaller than average, this means they can get closer to port (meaning more time exploring on land). #VikingCruises (both river AND ocean) are all about GETTING YOU THERE in style and comfort. Viking isn’t about fleecing the customer once on board. You select land excursions before you depart, on-board meals are included, as are wine and beer. You can prepay for a spirits upgrade if you want before you sail or when you’re on board (we did!🥃🍸). How’s the FOOD? Check out the #Manfredis Restaurant story pinned to my profile (PORCHETTA😍). Dining there is also included in the trip cost, but you need to make a reservation for sure. Ask for a window seat when you book a table.

The port video is from when we were entering the gorgeous #BayOfNaples. We had the best day wandering around #Napoli, searching out pizza of course (story also pinned to profile). Our cabin was on deck 6. Please note that this was not a free press trip. We paid for this cruise and Viking kindly upgraded our room before we sailed. ALL rooms aboard Viking Sky (and other ships) have verandas.

Peter and I went to cheer on friends @MonicaHoranRosenthal & @Phil.Rosenthal, who were being honored for their generous support. 🍑🍾 🇮🇹 Breakfast at legendary #HarrysBar Venice, Italy. Classic #Bellini (Prosecco and pureed white peaches). It was our first stop at 10:30am (right when they opened) and both Peter and I were thrilled to have the bar and staff to ourselves— for a precious few moments at least. We tucked into a small table across from the bar (to take in the space) and promptly ordered two original Bellinis (named after Giovanni Bellini, the fifteenth century Venetian painter). The cocktails came with a small dish of olives and, a few minutes later (to our surprise), complimentary chicken croquettes.

At €21 each, the drinks were expensive, but they were also damn delicious and refreshing. It wasn’t just about the cocktails and snacks, that’s for sure. It was more about embracing the history of the bar, which opened in 1931 by Giuseppe Cipriani. Ernest Hemingway had his own table. Truman Capote and Orson Welles (amongst other greats) drank there too.

By 11am the bar was starting to fill up with tourists, and just like us, they looked around the room with delight. Was this the absolute best Bellini ever? Of course it was. #BucketList #JoBitesItaly #LifeIsShortGetOutThere!

1  ounce  white peach, puree.
5  ounces  chilled prosecco (or champagne).
Pour peach puree into a flute, then add 🍾. .
