Emerald pricing basics.
1. Intensity of colour.
3. Purity (degree of treatment)
4. Shape and cut quality.
These two stones are almost identical in size and cut quality but the one on the left costs 4 times as much as the one on the right. Quite simply, intensity of colour is king, with that rich alpine green commanding prices in excess of 15k per ct for a 5 ct minor oil stone. Degree of treatment is incredibly important too (and most important to me personally)......these two stones could cost exactly the same if the one on the left was heavily treated, assuming the lighter stone remained ‘minor’. Think of a woman without make up who is flawlessly beautiful in her natural state, thats your ‘no oil’ stone, what you see is what you get. If a bit of lipstick and eyeliner is necessary thats your minor oil, only one or two fissures required filling with oil to improve clarity. Now if the lady requires tons of make up, hair extensions, fake eyelashes, botox, fillers etc etc etc then think a ‘significant’ oil stone, numerous fissures that required filling to enhance clarity! Picture the transformation if you remove all the enhancement, barely recognisable and precisely why (in layman’s terms) you should avoid heavily treated emeralds . #emerald #emeralds #colombianemerald #colombianemeralds #treatment #gem #trade #bogota #colombia
