🚀 A random Hip Hop song breakdown by @musicPoser // Episode 4: “Drive Slow” by Kanye West.
-
“Drive Slow”, the 5th track off Late Registration🤔. On this smooooth track, Kanye takes us on a ride down memory lane back when “if you had a car you was the Chi-town version of Baby” (Baby Aka Birdman aka pay Wayne his money yo!).
Sure the sample may be one of the best beat samples of all time (yes I took it there), but the overall message of the song is worth a check too.
-
🐻 Kanye opens the song narrative describing Marley, his old homie “who use to stay at 79th and May”. Kanye raps that Marley was always fresh af whenever he was out. And, since Kanye is Kanye, Ye was also fresh when he was a lil dude running around Chicago. But Marley was way fresher than Kanye because of one difference: homeboy Marley had a car 🚗 . With that whip, Marley was “the man” as Kanye put it. But “being the man” came with a price, and Marley ain’t no exception. Marley’s pop “passed away” when he was 16, leaving him with a “lil something”. If we connect the dots, we can infer Marley’s dad was involved in some shady business, hence why he passed away out of nowhere, but leaving Marley ready to start “stunting”.
-
🐻 Kanye ain’t a fool, so he knew why Marley was in this high position, and Marley knew that Kanye knew as well. This is where the hook comes in. Kanye looks up to this dude; he wants what Marley has: status. Why? Simple: he wants to live the “good life” (“Graduation” Era foresight😉) and “get in some drawers”. But Marley tells Kanye to slow down lil homie. “Dont rush to get grown”, enjoy being young and “innocent”, since all these “cool things” come with a price.
-
🐻 So yeah, on Kanye’s sophomore album, he made a song telling his fans to “drive slow” in life in order to, as Tyler the creator put it: enjoy right now, today.

🐻 The return of Flatbush Zombies 👀.
-
After their 2016 album “3001: A Laced Odyssey”, Flatbush Zombies popped into a more mainstream radar. As part of the “Beast Coast movement”, they solidified their place in hip hop not only with the backpackers, but with Coachella white girls as well. Now, after 2 years of absence they are finally back.
Their next album “Vacation In Hell” drops April 6. First single was released today: “Headstone”. Go peep it 🚀.

“You take a group of young men who come from historically disenfranchised communities, poverty, violence... and their disfunction, violence, poverty is now commodified, and sold. (...),
What they dont see is: do you understand what happened in that young kids life? Do you understand that the fathers not there? That there’s been this vicious cycle where the father was in the streets, the fathers dead or may have been addicted to drugs or depressed? Do you see the same thing happen with the mother? You think he’s authentic because of that. You think he’s authentic because all of his friends in the neighborhood are now like “YO! You made it!” And they going to come along. So now this young kid has to think to himself “Do I keep it sincere? And keep my friends with me? How do i deal- how do I navigate with this?” So how could someone possibly who’s not from that community, come and make that ok? Are they gonna go like superman did in the movie and fly around the world and get to the point where it all started and fix it? So you know, I don’t think anyone can fix that disfunction, and it kinda spills out however it spills out”.

My answer: I know this answer is super cliche but “To Pimp a Butterfly” came in clutch when it dropped during my senior year. Especially the track “For Sale” 🐐.

🚀 Favorite Kanye West Song - #8: Bound 2 ‼️SPECIAL EDITION‼️.
-
The last track off Kanye’s album “Yeezus”, Bound 2 honestly doesn’t feel like it belongs in this epic soundtrack. During “YEEZUS” era, Kanye was fighting not on the topic of music, but about his version of “Classism”: the idea that expensive brands and logos segregate and gives rise to prejudice in today’s society. Throughout Yeezus, Kanye is battling these “classism” adversaries in order to get his vision out, all while trying to find himself in a world where people see him both as a God AND a “jackass”, while of course, also being a black man in America.
.
@MusicPoser stfu! stop Analyzing Yeezus! This post is about Bound 2!” That’s where I’m heading!😧😞. After the masterpiece of MBDTF, everyone thought Kanye was going to deliver another gem. But nope. Kanye did a 180 with Yeezus. Theres no “soul” or “MBDTF” sound to be found here. Except one track, the last track: Bound 2. Kanye admitted that he purposely placed it as the last song. Why? Ye knew “Yeezus” was going to get hated on for the most part, that his fans would be like “WTF” upon hearing it. That’s why “Bound 2” is the last song. He wanted to let his fans/people know that, even though he’s getting attacked by the media and getting shunned by powerful fashion leaders, he still got it, musically and in being humble. He’s still the genius artist that he “fantasized bout back in Chicago”. Musically AND artistically.
-
‼️In conclusion: Kanye made us sit through the entirety of “Yeezus” in order for us to hear and understand his desperate cries for help. And at the end of the epic journey, what awaits us is an “Old Kanye” catchy love song dedicated to Kim: #Bound2. Remember, “He gives us what we need. It may not be what we want”. 🐐

❎ What are your thoughts on this song? Where would you rank it?🤔 good post?

🚀 I apologize for the lack of “original content” this week. I’m going to be completely honest with you all: my family is going through some legal/bail bond issues that is making all of us stress and worry 24/7. But no worries. It seems that we have almost come out of this nightmare. Please bare with the page until then. (😥And no, the legal/bond issues does not involve me committing a crime lol, its another stupid careless family member smh). - @musicposer .
