MusicArt  Conceptual Concerts with musicians, artists & art spaces since 2015. Creating & collaborating across art forms by Annie Yim. Upcoming: 16 April 2019

Wishing you all a Happy New Year! A look back on MusicArt collaborations in the last three years across art forms, with music at its heart. Very happy to announce that an in-depth chapter on the concept and processes behind MusicArt will be published by Palgrave MacMillan in Spring 2019, written by pianist & founder of MusicArt, Annie Yim in an edited volume on contemporary art and artists.
It has been a great inspiration and joy to create new works, performances, concert-installations alongside incredible artists, composers, musicians, poets, choreographers, dancers; in collaboration with concert halls, art spaces and galleries for audiences in London and internationally. We look forward to next year in Salzburg and more. Publication details to follow. Thank you all very much!

Wishing you all a lovely and peaceful holiday season, on the eve of the 200th anniversary of ‘Silent Night’, first performed for guitar and voice in 1818 in Oberndorf, Salzburg. The poem was written first by Joseph Mohr, with melody by Franz Xavier Gruber. This handmade card by our friend and book artist Pauline Rafal (2018) captures the stillness of Silent Night. Copy of the autograph manuscript of Silent Night on view at the @salzburg_museum current exhibition. .

Still buzzing after last week’s premiere of our concert-installation ‘Conceptual Concert in Three Acts’ at Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac London, by pianist Annie Yim, composer Raymond Yiu and poet Kayo Chingonyi. A contemporary homage to the influential composer #JohnCage and artist #RobertRauschenberg and their historic collaboration at Black Mountain College, inspired by current exhibitions of their works at @thaddaeusropac. Look forward to presenting a second performance at the Salzburg gallery in April 2019!

#Repost @thaddaeusropac Join us on Thursday 13 December at 7pm for a #worldpremiere concert by pianist Annie Yim with poet Kayo Chingonyi and composer Raymond Yiu.

To coincide with the exhibition #RobertRauschenberg : Spreads 1975-83 and #JohnCage: Ryoanji, we are delighted to invite you to this musical performance inspired by Rauschenberg’s collaborations with the pioneering avant-garde American composer.
.
“The specially composed concert-installation inspired by the work of Rauschenberg and Cage focuses on dialogues – musical and spoken, historical and contemporary, space and time, visual and aural interactions. Intended to be cumulative and cyclical, this new composition comprises unexpected combinations of influences and traditions, uncovering themes in Rauschenberg’s Spreads that have been incorporated into our process. Fragments, memory and integration are motifs that resonate throughout the piece, while music and words are woven, layered and juxtaposed as highly structured sound events." Annie Yim, Founder of @musicartlondon

Sheer joy and full of surprises! #Rauschenberg Spreads series inspired our upcoming concert-installation, featuring a new musical composition, framed by piano works of John Cage, within the current exhibition @thaddaeusropac. Buckets, umbrellas, mirrors, fabric ... ‘Rauschenberg became the giver of gifts. The gifts he gives are not picked up in distant lands but are things we already have ... and so we are converted to the enjoyment of our possessions. Converted from what? From wanting what we don’t have, art as pained struggle.’ - John Cage on Rauschenberg

Doing pre-recording for our concert-installation on 13 Dec ahead of exhibition opening #Rauschenberg Spreads & #JohnCage Ryoanji tonight at @thaddaeusropac. Love spending time with Rauschenberg’s Rumor (Spread), 1980 before our world premiere with poet Kayo Chingonyi, composer Raymond Yiu and pianist Annie Yim, in collaboration with Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac. #Dec13 #premiere #concert #installation #performance #poetry #piano #composition #KayoChingonyi #RaymondYiu #AnnieYim #MusicArt #ThaddaeusRopac #collaboration #london

Poet Kayo Chingonyi, who won the Dylan Thomas Prize 2018 with his debut collection Kumukanda, will perform specially written poetry as part of our upcoming concert-installation ‘Conceptual Concert in Three Acts’. His love of music and sound and how it influenced his writing always shines through.
“The silence between songs can’t be modulated by anything other than held breath.” in his Guide to Proper Mixtape Assembly. With special thanks to @thepoetrysociety for kind assistance. #musicalinfluence #poetry #poet #performance #music #collaboration #KayoChingonyi #musicartlondon
