Animal Rights Reserved (ARR) Foundation was established by Margaret Zak 7 years ago. ARR supports the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) in fielding a mobile veterinary unit with its base on the Kongoni Game Valley Conservancy. ARR annually provides Ksh 10 - 12 million in funding for veterinary drugs and equipment, staff allowances, housing and a laboratory for the vet team as well as vehicles, fuel and support staff. The vet unit covers a wide area of the central Rift Valley responding to reports of sick and injured wildlife. Most of the rescue work is in response to horrific injuries cause by the snares, spears and arrows poachers use to capture wildlife for the bush meat trade. Animals are treated in the field by an expert team of dedicated wildlife professionals.
As part of the Teams work ARR also manages a wildlife rehabilitation centre where injured animals can recover and where orphaned or abandoned young animals are raised. As animals recuperate or mature they are reintroduced to the wild, to live safe lives on the ARR Kongoni Game Valley and Mundui conservancies.
