The other weekend, both #20thCenturyFox’s #BohemianRhapsody and #Disney’s #TheNutracker released opposite each other. As far as box-office is concerned, audiences went out in droves to see Bohemian, whereas Nutcracker didn’t do great. What struck me about that weekend was that because of the impending Disney/Fox merger, we won’t be getting as many films like Bohemian Rhapsody anymore. And it’s a shame, because as far as I’m concerned Bohemian is the better movie. Disney just doesn’t make films like Bohemian. Hopefully Disney will take a few more “risks” after purchasing Fox, like they did in the 90’s with their sub-studio Touchstone, which made films like #Unbreakable. The purpose of this post was just to remind people about one of the negative aspects to this gigantic $71 billion merger. I know Warner Bros, Universal, Paramount, Sony, Lionsgate and more will continue to make movies like Bohemian, I just wish Disney would too because audiences are clearly more interested in that type of movie compared to The Nutcracker.
