I transplanted an aloe in each of these makeshift beds before winter. I intentionally planted several companion plants in just one of them, though a few ended up in the other as well. I didn't cover or protect either aloe during the winter, partly due to my inexperience, but the results are pretty obvious. Only one bed really flourished through the winter. Companion planting works. When you think about it, people are a lot like plants. We're better together than apart.
